I was raised on science fiction movies, books and video games. So, it wasn’t a surprise to my parents when after getting my first computer when I was 5 – a Commodore 64 – I exclaimed that I was going to be a graphic designer when I grew up. I really liked Print Shop.
To nurture my artistic side, my parents let me play in the art supply aisles of stores like Target (whom I would later design stationery lines for) and let me pick out whatever supplies I wanted to create with. I spent most of my childhood with my nose stuck in color plate pages of books about Van Gogh, Monet and Munch, always immersed in the world of art. I began writing at a young age too, keeping personal diaries and writing short stories into every blank notebook I could get my hands on, even those I was meant to be writing notes in for school to study. Where I didn’t excel in school, I made up for in my art classes – my right brain has always been in charge. After drawing my way through high school, I went on to college to earn my degree in Graphic Design.
During college I was fascinated by the web medium, so I fired up my left brain and taught myself HTML, CSS, and Javascript. I began my career in designing stationary for major retail outlets, and print materials for the corporate world – but web design was always the hobby I came home to at night. In 2006, I began designing and developing websites professionally and never looked back.
In 2006, I combined my design talent and my love of coding and pursued a career in Web Design and Development. I love programming the web. I love HTML, CSS, Javascript — the list keeps growing. One of the best parts of being in this profession is learning something new every time I tackle a big project. I love solving problems. I love the need to know how to do something, and not stopping until I get it right…even if it does encroach on my sleep schedule a little bit 😉
